I suffer from bad hearing. Used the custom made in ear plugs, they work but aren’t brilliant. I still lost hearing whilst using these. Apparently there is a bone behind the ear lobe that can be damaged if you don’t wear over the ear muffs. I use peltor electronic ones now. Once you get used to the echoy sound and hearing your own foot steps they are very good. My hearing loss has levelled out now.

Just been on a waste disposal site.
A big one. They have a shredding machine than can munch half a portacabin.
But I digress.
We had to use the sites ear defenders.
The ear covers were bigger than normal ones. It was explained that it protects the soft tissue from the sound waves entering the ear channel, by other routes.
It made a big difference. I asked our host to show us.

Plus they had on inductive loop system so you could hear the tanoy, door alarm and the fire alarm.

They had in some parts ear defenders that used anti noise to counter act the noise. As we did not go into those parts I can not say how good they were.

But the face mask we used in the Bio waste area was fanbloodytastic.
As you walked to the building you got a hint of the pong and stink. The face mask, filter and air pack certainly made the pong go.

Our host was very keen on H&S. She spent most of the time telling us how much is spent on it.

I was there looking at why the fire alarm was in fault.
They had tripped the breaker. I was not allowed to reset it. Their site sparky had to, as I was not site trained.
