Ebay Auto-darkening Mask

Hi;

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I bought a mask a couple of years ago cost me about £60, haven't done any welding for a year or so as I have been working away but will be home in June and my son wants to help so I needed another cheaper mask. Was going to ask about these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/jsp-royale-ii-flip-up-gas-welding-goggles on this forum but I was sure he would not wear them as they were not "WICKED" enough. He's obviously been watching too much AMERICAN CHOPPER so one of these with Flame effect and scull would be absolutely brilliant!!!

Gas welding goggles are no good for arc!

I bought one from this vendor when I started doing my college welding course, back in October. The instructor (a professional welder who does the odd night course) borrowed it to try on MIG and TIG and was very impressed with it.
He bought one the next day "to keep in the boot of the car" as he was always forgetting his more expensive working lid when he went to the college and he was happy enough to use this one.

Would reaction time, for the difference we're talking about, be an issue anyway as far as damage is concerned? Effect is cumulative so if you're not getting enough of a flash to leave a spot in front of your eyes I very much doubt you'll get enough Uv to dry your cornea either.

Most of the automasks have full UV resistance even in 'off' mode.

I just bought one from the link provided. The headband has a nice hold and the mask itself works well. I'm happy for the money.

Going to buy a mask this week end as mine has packed in.

Whats the difference between the two that were mentioned on here?
The main differences I see are 2 extra arc sensors and a slightly larger viewing area.

Ordered the second one.
Mate has the first and im impressed, but for a few extra quid figured I'd get the latter.

It amazes me how the price of automatic welding masks has fallen over the years after looking at some of the masks on this thread,
i bought my first auto mask, an Optrel one about 20 years ago which was around £180?!!

works fine and still use it for mobile stick welding in my day job, but...i will say although it's fast it doesn't react as fast to the arc as the newer models.
