I bought a broken BICC crimper with some dies years ago, still not used it in anger.
The 10mm dies were with it, but they were wrong for my terminals. Eventually I got details
of what a crimp should be like, from one of the terminal makers, seems the crimp should be
85% to 90%[that might be wrong it was years ago I made the the dies]. I made two sets of dies.
Not tried them so no idea if they any good, I might try them tomorrow.

What's the bet they're sized to monkey Chinese-made starter lugs made from tin foil?

If this were so, then instead of having to use one-size smaller dies, you would have to use one-size bigger dies.

Went to try mine and it seems I made the dies a few thou thicker than the originals, and I made the side of the tool a better fit.
So I need to take a file to it.
Heres the 10mm die I made, I was in a hurry to get it in with the stuff going for casing and only did one end, the other is just a round hole. It should give me the right crimp for the 10mm cable I bought and the terminals.

I bought a set of those from RS many (35) years ago £ 150 then !! it pushes the + dia into the lug, and it has split some lugs, from time to time, longitudially but think that is down to quality of modern lugs , I personally now like the hex idea, and all mine now produce the hex because if one doesnt quite crimp, can use another set that will take it a little further but maintain the hex appearance. problem with just a straight split hole is the lug can be squished out between the dia's and stop the crimp, not had a problem with my hyd set but only use them for bigger than 16mm up to that have several plain hand units.

Exactly the ones I've been looking at, and a direct copy of a decent set I used years ago (fraction of the price, though). I've not been happy with hex crimps on co-ax, and am a bit concerned about the longevity of the cheapy cable crimping sets.
That mechanical set at least looks the part and if the parts are of half-decent hardening it might last a while.

I bought a 16T set a while ago of ebay and it does from 16m to 300mm and I found that the lugs you use have a big effect on how well the crimp is pressed. The thicker the lug and if the hole is filled with cable the better it turns out. Been meaning to make a pair of smaller sized dies to do 10mm cable for a while.

Used my ebay one first time the other day, worked fine,did notice the dies dont have the beever teeth in the middle to depress right into the crimp though, Loving Langy s manual version, did look up speedway parts but couldnt find listing/price on those?. Arther
