Ok no probs.how do I connect the compression tester.?

those pumps were quite common used in pub cellars.there not a verry large cfm ,a compression test on the pump would be ideal see if theres low pressure due to wear

Is it a V twin refrigeration pump? Found too on old large cars I think. These pumps are designed to circulate lube oil within the plumbing like any aircon system or fridge/freezer and I don't think they'd work well as an air compressor?

It is a v twin,but would of thought it was the original one,could be wrong though.

Looks more like a Ingersoll Rand 235 single stage to me, which used either 1.5 HP or 2HP motors.

Stripped the pump today and found there is a bit of an oil leak on the side casing,would this have much to do with building pressure by any chance?

Leaking between the head and the barrel could indicate a blown gasket or warped head.

Well I stripped everything and cleaned all the head,top of piston etc with wire brush in the drill,and the rest of it is currently soaking in thinners.the oil leak was from the side of the pump where the oil is(sump),so I cleaned all the face up and put gasket sealer/maker back on as the old gasket was completely knackered to say the least,this is also what I intend to use when refitting the head.

Have you checked the bore & piston for wear and ovality?

If its always struggled fit a smaller pump pully (or a bigger motor one) to give it a bit more advantage.

What size is the bore and stroke.

All looks nice believe it or not.Also funny you mentioned the pulley size,as it was another question I was going to ask.As for the size of the pistons I ain't got a clue,but on top of each one there are stamped numbers st14 and something else can't remember.another question,what will happen if there is too much oil in it?

Just re read my last post - should have been the other way round! Small pully on motor large on pump. It will however drop the output of the compressor. Are you sure that motor is 3hp,the pump doesn't look very big? As its in bits check the valves and seats are ok.
