Nice to actually see a sensible debate about such things. Quite often hse gets a bad name.

The above but you need to separately filter the incoming air from the compressor and it MUST intake air from a fresh source...
I am sure it will kill you, just a matter of if it takes days, weeks, years or decades to do soProbably due to contaminants, oil, possible legionella etc...I wouldn't fancy inhaling or drinking what lurks inside a compressor tank...yuck..
The air from a compressor is contaminated as previously stated. If I remember correctly, it can be passed through a carbon filter to make it suitable for breathing. I'm 99% certain that it's what shot blasters use.
That is for breathing quality 02 feed though yes? When I was coded ( read, had a proper job ) one of the things I used to make was stainless pressure tanks for dentists.
( two 10" stainless end caps and a length of SCH 10 pipe )
The compressor was also stainless with PTFE bearings and seals so no oil.
The welds had to be purged perfect and had to be spotless.
Something that was drilled into me.
Think of me next time your in the chair.

Ha, that is the reason so many faint lack of o2 while holding thier breathPersonally when faced with the drill I grip the chair and HOLD my breath.
I was thinking the sameI hope all this info isn't in vain, the OP hasn't been on since the first post.

I'd concur with all the advice given about enclosed space working, it's pretty much the no.1 cause of death for seafarers through people not following what are pretty simple rules; once welding fumes are added on top of the hazards innate to enclosed spaces it means you need to be considering whether you need to do the work at all, or if possible tackling it some other way.
