700 bar is pump pressure. I have ordered a 1M hose if I seperate the rams and use 1 I will only need 1 hose

Gotta be to get in the door of the log burner
end goes in first not side ways
Even our tiny stove would take 10" + logs on an angle.
Front to back about 8" side to side about 10"

That is perfect these rams have a 8 inch stroke
So logs will all have to be a bit less +- your level of accuracy when cross cutting them.
Set it so when fully extended you still have a couple of inches left.
Its not often you need to go all the way & you can always turn them over.
Make the logs to the max your stove can take.
Even 1" on an 8" log is a lot of extra work for the same amount of wood.
1 extra cross cut & split cycle every 8 logs.
More waste via sawdust ect.
This is my splitter, it has an 18" travel.
But only gets used for big rings that cant go in one of my processors.
Set it so when fully extended you still have a couple of inches left.

I was planning on the ram not having to go all the way through we will see I can always use a packer!

If you have plenty of capacity, can you use a lever arrangement to increase the stroke (like the arm on a digger)?
Can you join the rams end-to-end, maybe with an extra valve so if you have something extra long, or it does not split well, the second one starts to extend.

So I guess you are going horizontal then?
If you are resplitting doing it that way increases how many times you need to pick the log up & put it back.
With the wedge on the ram the log stays in place so you just rotate it to make the next split.
Pushing log through wedge is how a processor does it but they do all the splitting in one go via a 2 4 6 8 10 12 way wedge.

yes I think horizontal will work best with my RSJ desing, I will make a couple of blades that will be inetr changable a 4 way and a 6 way dont think I really need a staright blade although I may desing it as suck the other blades just slide over the straight blade. I was originally just going to got with the 4 way split but I have a few larger rounds here. the logs will only be going through once! sod double handling them
I am a little concerned that you will be disappointed with its performance.
Its a twin speed pump.
On fast but no pressure its flows 3.27741 lpm
On pressure but less flow it flows 0.327741 lpm
Roughly your ram holds roughly 700cm3 on extend & half that due to the rod on retract.
At low pressure thats about 12 seconds for full stroke.
On high pressure its about 2 mins.
Ok on most you wont need a full stroke but return speeds if double acting will be about 6 seconds.

You always get some that need resplitting.
Also look at box wedges. Popular in USA.

I will be dissapointed with its speed, I am sure, but the ram and pump only cost me £50! so I can always upgrade, rather get it right now though, that was why i thought about using one ram then it would be quicker to extend and retract right?

i prefer this style
Down side to them is as the rings get bigger the logs become very pizza shaped & long on two sides.
Set the height so the bottom ones are the max you want & then pull back the top[s when too big.
Make sure you set the second blades about 1 to 2" back from main blade.
I currently have a 4 & 6 way on my bigger processor but am planning on making one like this.
Also notice that two logs are much bigger than the other 4.

Would it be twice as slow with the 2.rams. I'm quite liking the strength and stability of the 2 rams.
Yes. Most only use 1 ram.
It's already too slow. With two rams you will give up.

Just got me hose it is a 3/8 NPT hose the power unit is a 3/8npt fitting, but after measuring the fitting they used to convert it it is a 3/8BSPT so I need to make up a aaptor from NPT to BSPT becuse you know at 700bar it will leak!
