Metrica, they are Italian, but i can not say 100% if their tools are made in Italy or not.

Theoretically yes, but what was generally not shipped was the knowledge of the operator who had been using the machine for years and knew how to allow/overcome the slight amount of wear in the machine.
Plus its generally accepted that older european/uk/usa machine casings were better quality materials than far eastern casings.
Now days being as most if not all far eastern manufacturers use CNC production machines now the tollerences are generally tighter than older machines.

It was also to do with quality control, buy some chinese or indian tools and see how unbelieveably rubbish they are. Parts roughly finished, not heat treated (i don't think they have discovered heat treatment yet in India). Where as you see some older British, german or American tools and they feel and look completely different. Personally i like Starrett and Mitutoyo, the main problem now is mitutoyo stuff is being counterfeited in china wholesale. You don't know what you are buying.

there seems to be a fair bit of variation in quality as well however I'm not daft enough to think I could afford all of my toys if some weren't cheap stuff.. but some of the imports seems to be made out of very poor base material, no amount of clever machining can improve that (IMO)

Thought so. I would have to say 12 thou or 0.012 over the length of a machinists square is really not that good!

I would expect a fair quality carpenters square to be more accurate than 0.012" over 150mm...
Is that a Brexit measurement?

Could be imperial specifecation over imported metric production in the days to come post Brexit.

I think you mean .03mm and .04mm over six inches or a foot....
Plastic flashes on a 0.04 gap on injection moulds.
Anyway on another note given half a chance China will use there own tool steel equivalents and be under no illusion it is not European/American/Japanese quality. That's no fairy tale - quite common on injection moulds shipped back here even though European tool steel was specified they did not use it and you can tell.

Those are the squares, l was quoting, apart from the fact I still use imperial spec measurements for my machining work.
And for those that are about to ask why l quoted 150mm and 300mm as the length, you try and buy a length of any type of sheet/stock in imperial lengths, even the stock holders that l know around here that sell imperial sizes sell it in metric lengths.
You can get a Faithfull 225mm for £22 with the same accuracy

I think people are missing the point regarding country of origin.
It's not simply about quality but why is a good name square £100 yet a faithful or other no-value brand £10 when they're from the same place and both distributed in the uk?
It's as though you're paying several times as much to see a famous name on it.
