If I was Mr Esab sitting in Sweden I’d be a bit p**sed Off.

Dealers already heavily discounting a product that hasn’t been officially launched and never seen weld.

It could be the best piece of kit on the market and world beating in its class. Why on Earth are people giving -35% already

Because Esab are famous for thier silly list prices. Have a look an nu5 rods for instance the list is stupid but the customer is not

In fact, Esseti-Italy was the first who made such a machine, maybe 10 years ago. Esseti does not exist any more.

Today, there are already several producers..
TER-Italy is making them for years. TER was making their machine in cooperation with Chinese Riland in the past, but I think they make them in their factory in Italy today.
I tried their 400A TIG AC/DC / 320 A MIG/MAG several years ago. Excellent in TIG AC/DC really, with all features existing at top brands at TIG HF AC/DC (balance, frequency, independant amplitude adjustment, pedal connection...), but at least average in pulse MIG/MAG or maybe poor. It was model 2014-2015. maybe newer models are better in pulse MIG/MAG.

Weco-Italy is also making MIG/MAG/TIG HF AC/DC...

I believe, Everlast is mostly Nantong Free from China, so if true, anybody could order such a machine from them under his own brand.

Esab MIG/MAG/TIG HF AC/DC, I do not know whether it is their own product or of some Chinese producers. If it is Chinese in origin, tomorrow, also everybody could have it under their own brand

They all do not want to speak much about such a machine, but what I extracted in Duesseldorf-Essen Welding Fair, there is a big problem how to protect specific MIG/MAG modules, coils, transformers, chokes... from HF strike and avoid failure of some components. Everybody knows that is recommended to avoid HF arc ignition next to car or medical or similar electronic. It is big challenge to make reliable machine fully protected from HF strike. Top brands still avoid to present such a machine today, but I am sure that most of them are developing it.

I’ve just come back across this thread.

There’s a lot of rubbish been posted above.

As we’ve already explained elsewhere, ESAB has a list price and depending on how much business you do with a distributor, you may get a better price.

A customer who does £20k of consumables a year with a distributor and one who does £200 a year will pay two very different prices.

The ESAB Rebel AC/DC has been delayed because they’ve got a product timeline, and the 235, 285 and 320 were in front of the 205.

Reliability of these Multiprocess machines and getting a decent arc in each process has always been the trial which has held other MP machines back.

It has very little to do with HF and a lot to do with actually fitting the AC aspect of the TIG process inside a small box.

As said at Fabtech 2017, the 205AC/DC was a bare bones no thrills machine that wasn’t ready to be used by the public really. But that’s the Americans for you.

In my opinion they created a load of hype and then lost all of the momentum they could have cashed in on.

I’m sure when the machine gets released here (which if I remember correctly is Q2-2019) it will have been tested thoroughly so they don’t end up with a 1000 faulty machines.

Remeber ESAB is huge and dwarfs Everlast or other generic Chinese rebadge manufacturers, who might have a few dozen faulty machines a year.

ESAB can not afford to release a product that isn’t right. They learnt that with the first rebels which had a software issue with the screen that required a hardware switch.

That’s American mate.

Tweco torch will be replaced with European MXL200 torch.

Tig torch will be TXH201

You won’t get a foot pedal chucked in , in European markets, I’m 90% sure of that.

You won’t get Atom Arc electrodes they're USA only and no rebel has ever been released with free electrodes only a spool of 12.50 AristoRod.

You won’t get a regulator because in America they use 1 fitting. Over here there’s at least 4 different types of bottle.

$3000 is USA RRP. So by the time it gets over here I’d say with the pedal you’ll be looking at £3200-3400 RRP.

Internet price via rapid or similar would then be around £2500-2700.
