Hi Richard you will need a DTI to set up your 4 jaw chuck, they can tell you a lot about how your machine is setup, how true something is all sorts. Just picked up a mitutoyo (metric mind) dial gauge and a Noga (pretty hard to come by) magnetic base for under £30. A nice imperial DTI and I will be set.

I made the cap nice and round and smoothed off. Put all the 45 degree chamfers back on and turned it right down to a stubby size.
I even put the little 45 on the bottom for a weld on prep ha.
I'm getting to grips with the little thing .
Loving it.
Obviously I've left all the threads that's something I need to practice.
But all the other faces are mine. (Tool only no emery.)
Only down side is I've smoothed it off so well oily hands are gonna struggle to open it lol.

Ime not a big fan of myfords for reasons not for here but it looks like a great lathe and all the bits with it are a real big score there Richard including the vertical milling vice..WOW great combo. You have currency there and shall resell no problem and the chances with a profit too.

I remember getting my 1st lathe,nothing was safe from getting turned including plastic plumbing pipe and brass fittings
..Little bit of advice Richard..only turn cast iron iff and when you really have to and even then try use something else instead, Cast iron dust is the fastest route to a lathes grave

well ive got one and have had it for over 40 years and wouldn't part with it. also have a Harrison . much nicer making small parts on the myford and quicker

I think they will always carry a premium value as everyone knows them, they will fit in the back of a typical car but lots don't like them as they have become trendy and as a result generally price wise you can get a bigger more usable lathe for the same money.
But that does not detract from the fact that for small turning work they probably can't be bettered, and no doubt will still be running making parts to repair chinese lathes in 20 years time. ( if we are not printing bits with some sort of 3D printer mig/tig hybrid machine)
