Fein Dealers

I’m looking to buy a few new grinders, a 9”, a lighter 5” than my metabo, and a die grinder and I fancy giving Fein a try.

trouble is there are very few online retailers around to get an idea of models and prices.

a local tool shop seems to stock a limited range of their products but they’re usually 20% dearer than online. Fine if you need something urgently, not so great when you’re potentially spending the best part of £600.

does anyone know a dealer with actual stock on the shelves so I can get a hands on look.

I got two to try from Thomas Grahams about 6 months ago, the WSG 8-115 model. Initially thought they were the bees knees, really nicely built etc, but the lads don't actually like em because the bodies are too thick.
I think it's the same body size as the 5"?
The smaller WSG 7 might be better, but then, less power...

Brother has a 9" 2.2kw metabo and I really rate it.

I had a Fein multitool, great tool until it blew its capacitor in spectacular style, got it fixed & a few months later it did it again. Scrapped it as i inherited one from my Dad. Hardly used & that one went pop too. Got it fixed & guess what, it went pop & that time i got a proper belt off it.
In the bin it went.
Buy Metabo, cheaper & better.

Well this is the problem with my 5” metabo, you can’t actually grip the body because it’s too big. The flat head metabo is a much better size, but it doesn’t have the same features or power.
I don’t know the code but it’s 1250W, auto balancing, soft start etc etc.

Got a cheap metabo 9” And it’s not a bad machine.

the problem with metabo is I don’t like their customer service. Very much a case of if it’s out of its 1 year unlimited warranty we’re not doing anything.

You could try a Milwaukee, if they do a 5" version of their 1250w grinder? It's a beast, and slimline... but designed specifically for 2 hands, not 1.

Very impressed with the 850w hilti grinders I got in last week, they're slim, soft start, and hilti quality. Plus hilti service is second to none.
Again, don't think they do a slimline 5".

What about buying from one of the big box shifters?

I've had no problem taking faulty power tools back to B&Q/Screwfix

Both mine popped the caps just cut it out was a bit exciting Whyle holding it though.
Has since worked for 3 years without, not heavy use though,

Won’t touch Milwaukee. Okay for electricians, not for welding environment.

My metabos came from FFX and to be fair they were very good when my flat head had to go back twice under warranty.

Metabo are relatively cheap compared to the competition and the quality they offer.
I don't know but I've never really had problems with the bulky construction however I have big hands (slim and long) and I rarely use the the grinder one hand so might be the answer to the question .

There's not much to say , Fein, Metabo, Makita , Bosch, Hitachi ... Over a certain amount of power are just bulky tools
Makita is better than others for this aspect but doesn't last as long as others .

I bought a metabo W12-125Quick in October 2017
After 3 years I would like to get another one ,so I went to the shop where I bought the previous one and I've seen the WEA13-125Quick and it seems to be more slim than the older grinders.
For example I have also the WE19-180RT Quick and the motor housing has the same dimensions of the 5" with less power .
The only difference is not the diameter but the length of the motor

Metabo usually don't need assistance ,I should have killed mine several times in three years (grinders and SDS drill)

I have one 1050W it has Hilti wrote on and it's red but it's actually a Bosch GWS 10-125 E

Agree with Hilti service but at the same time I disagree ,they can do what they because you are going to pay the tool twice so ...
I don't like them because their policy ,if you buy a tool you can't sell it later in the years because of their policy, parts are not available ,even carbon brushes if you ask for them they take your tool ,and if the tool is discontinued they take it and sold you another one .
They are strange , someone loves them someothers like me don't
