these are made from d2. they stay sharp a long time lol, i keep them sharp with carbide hones, i was using the steak knife with a cheap fork the other day and cut a piece out of the fork by accident lol

How long to make one from start to finish? I've been wanting to make one for ages but never find the time or a blade I like the look of. Where do you get your supplies from, last place I looked at was thebushcraftstore. Might just order up one of their kits for a winter project

Ha,I know that feeling,lol,so ball park price? BEFORE I show him, as I know what he will say, and he reckons I am tight, at a boot sale, brand new arc welder the guy said to him £20, What he exclaimed,the bloke said ok £17.50, alright then, several years down the road I had to fix it, switches etc cost £12, I spent probably an hour on it, cheers ,and he hands me a tenner!!!!so dont hold your breath waiting for a order from bil.

Yep I realise your knives are not kits. A kit would suit me just now, not a huge lay out and I would perhaps learn the basics before attempting to make one from scratch.

i bought a knife kit once about 4 years ago just for the laugh,i just threw it in the bin, maybe they've improved but i doubt it, i started with files and a vise, first knife i made was a lockback whittler, took me over a week but you really learn when you do everything yourself, there is a lot of info out there on knife making,i find its better than watching some one make something on tv, i dont have a tv anymore! get yourself some ground flat stock in 01 tool steel and have a bash,what harm can come of it?
