FILLER - whats your methods ?

here you are folks , I sprayed the metal with primer as i dindnt want bare metal showing for long .

I put a steel rule over the panel to see where the low bits were but this was difficult as the panel is curved .I then marked the outline of the low points with a blue marker so i knew where to fill .

applied filler in the required area

sanded across and up and down as the boot lid is curved and tried to keep the contours correct .

gave it another prime and then another rub down to show the low parts then another prime . I still dont think this is good enough but its hard to visualise from pictures .

you need to put a larger skim of filler on seriously twice the size of that.also try and smooth the filler off with the spreader card so its as smooth as possible before it dries and feather the edges down.try turning it on its side and gentle wiping it over the surface.when the filler is dry spray paint a light coat of colour paint over the filler before you start to sand it will help you to see what is going on.
i usually just try to get the general shape with the first skim
trying to describe how to do filler work is real difficult

really ? I thought I was just taking it above the panel ? ? ? but I will try that as im doing it again

looks like you have been sanding in one direction only up and down. you must try to change direction following both curvatures

perhaphs sanding to hard as well,

the repairs sanded look like there is still to much filler on the repair half way down.

And too much filler off the repair at the top.

Filling is hard to explain and hard to learn. one tip you can try is once you have sanded lay a piece of paper cloth flat on the panel and rub your hand across the repair on the cloth, this can make it much easier to feel the repair, rather than just using your bare hand.

I see what your saying..... I will be rubbing this down yet again . just dont feel im getting anywhere
