Fillet: hole?

I'm no engineer, but I wonder if when load is applied, will the lower bar(s) attempt to pivot the drop plates from the chassis rails using the bolts through the crossmember as a "pivot" ?

The picture provided by Mr Fluffy shows the lower legs going straight to the chassis rails giving triangulation.

To fix this problem,

1. grinder with cutting disc.
2. cut a line down the center of the weld, two this approx 5-10 times.
3. have the cut line approx 25mm above and below the defect.
4. start Vee out the but by this you are cleaning out the center and sides with at one go.
5. once you have vee out the defect refill the hole you have just done,
6. if you have excess build up on the starts and stops tickle out with a grinder,

If done correctly you wont see the repair.

3 cut a minimum of 25mm eithe side of defect
4 vee the prepared area
5 weld it back up

and is all this because of 1 pinhole christ im glad nothing like this happens to me at work

On the lower drop plate stiffener I would have preferred to have two separate bars, from the bottom end of the drop plate to the chassis mount at each side,Triangulating the drop plate both for and aft plus side to side ,(just a different perspective)

That's how you, me and landrover would have done it, but it's such a crappy angle it's not really here or there how it's done. Debs has just used 10kg of extra steel instead........
Same difference.

triangulating is a lot stronger streight of the chasis to the bottom of the drop plate .give it a good rive pulling a car out of a ditch at an angle and it will put a hell of a diagonal strain on it

A pinhole regardless of size is a welding defect.

It is a very small defect on a very tidy weld. It is nothing structural and was the rest is so good, I highly.doubt it will matter. Half a tin of hammerite will have it looking good as new. Ihave seen much worse welds laid down on furnaces and foundry ladles, so dont worry.
