I'm even more befuddled . . . OP asks for suggested reusable filters ., . he gets some suggestions . . . you ask for details of the posted filters (half an hour after I posted my suggestions, so I assumed you were offering an opinion on them) so I provided a link - which showed the P3 and APF20 classification - which fit with everything you've ever said being required for filters being used for DIY welding purposes - and your info on that subject in the past is what informed my purchase (so thank-you).

Every other post has to been to answer a question posed - an exchange of info - nothing (for once) posted disagrees with your offered knowledge?

He wanted details on the GVS mask filters but you posted a link to a stealth mask which had nothing to do with his question. (easy mistake TBF)
So he spat the dummy out, as per usual when any discussions about PPE occur on here.

I guess so - I was interested in his opinion on them as it was his previously posted info in other threads that persuaded me to buy them following someone else posting them in the "things you've bought" thread, as they appeared to fully fulfil his suggested classification requirements.

It's an important subject and I guess a difficult one if you have to deal with the after-effects of people being given the wrong protective gear for the the circumstances they are in.

I followed my own link to buy some more yesterday - they are cheaper than replacement filters! Expiry date is well into 2026 on the ones I've just had delivered.

And in my entirely unscientific testing, grinding, cutting, welding in my double garage, my nasal hairs seem to now have a very much reduced task to do - a damp hankie shoved up on the end of my little pinkie (cheap millipore test ) comes out just as filthy as it went in - previously it would have been worryingly plastered in a lot more contamination!

Got the GVS Elipse today and can't say I'm impressed. Tried to face fit and no matter what I do it leaks air around my nose. This doesn't happen with my 3M 7503.

The Stealth one seals very well on first attempt if I'm clean shaven - probably one of the best masks I've worn in that respect. If I could remember who first mentioned them in the "what have you bought now", I'd thank them again for mentioning them.

Same thing, ive no idea what a R classification is, never heard of that before

About 25 seconds in my lunch moment - I type slow - I was looking at the Stealth filter again - noticed the BS number they referenced and Googled it - third one down was HSE - so clicked it, scrolled down to contents, scrolled down to the relevant section - and . . .

When a HSE guy, who generally offers sound advice, questions it as he's not heard of it, it made me wonder - and I'm not keen to be working away, unaware my mask is approved to some sub-section of a standard that the supplier may have invented, I wanted to make sure it really was a genuine designation.

Can you "waste" time on checking PPE?

Its certainly a mask that can be cleaned and re-used. Its not a mask requiring disposal at the end of a shift or time limit, hence I guess classified "R" under their guidelines of use in the same document until the shelf life expires, its gets damaged, or breathing through it becomes harder.

Probably why they also sell a storage case, so it can be protected between uses.

I certainly find it a better fit, easier to use, and just more convenient than 3M and other masks I've used. And at such a good price at the moment to not be concerned about using it - I've seen people save masks to be used only when they really need - when it reality, they needed it all the time.

The document is actually quite an interesting read - certainly a worthwhile read for those us creating dust in metal work, building etc.

Might make you think a little more about wearing a mask of the correct spec - much as Parm has attempted to point out in the past.

I now also have a Trend Stealth mask to join my collection. To be honest I still prefer my 3M 7503 to the GVS Elipse and the Stealth.
