Finally got round to fitting insulation in the garage

As the title says, finally got round to fitting insulation into the garage roof, hoping to sort out the condensation / rust on me tools.

With many, many thanks to @roofman for the advice on technique, what to buy and where to buy!
I got some 110mm-130mm seconds off a Welsh company on ebay for around £130 delivered.

Then got some silver backed insulation bubble wrap to put between the insulation and the roof.

Took myself and my mate all day to get it fitted and hats off to people who do this for a living - the PUR is flipping horrible to work with. Masks and goggles and I'm still coughing six hours later!




This is half of it fitted - I've got insulation tape, too, so will be covering up all the seams (and, yes, there is plenty ventilation in the garage).

And this is what's left...
It's too bulky for me to hold on to so I've offered it free on the local facebook page, otherwise it's off to the tip in a couple of days.

So hopefully that's it! We'll wait till the winter to see what difference it makes to the condensation & rust.

Oh, and I need to refit the lights and sockets...

I've recently been thinking I must get around to a clearout to make some space. Progress is at the point where I can't get to the shed at the moment because there's a galv carport framework and some old shed panels blocking the way, which I've just appropriated, to try and add a couple of bits of extra storage space in the garden. I think my clearout plan went awry somewhere.

I had a motor sat on my shelf for over 30 years, eventually found a use for it so don't be too hasty

I muck out our shed twice a year, if it's in there and has not been used in the last 6 months it's gone. Sold or binned

Interested to know where you got the silver lined bubble wrap from too

dont forget that you can have things for 10 years, get rid of it and then find that you need it the next week

You may have to seal the concrete floor and an outer wall if you have one facing the prevalent driven rain direction .

I've also put three skirts on the garage door /frame to deflect /prevent as much rain entry as you can especially blown in rain water .
One to the left side on the actual door frame poking in about 35 mm past the wood into the door opening ..so say a 55 mm wide strip up to about 800 mm , same the other side and then one right across the bottom in one full length if possible making this last one actually wipe the floor to give it a bit of a seal against blown in rain I've set mine on the frame and across the bottom of the door with Silkaflex non-set sealer then using big headed aluminium rivets passing through a 38 mm wide strip of spare UPVC strip

This has made a tremendous difference to the moisture levels . Since it was done at h beginning of Jan this year ,no rain has managed to gain entry and we're talking of deepest darkest wettest Welsh weather .
