Fincord M 2.5s, cheapest place?

Oelrikon have just had a relatively large increase in rods, somewhere in the region of 10-12% so prices are going to be increasing relatively soon. You're probably looking at between £45-£50 a 5KG pack on eBay.

That being said.. if you find a supplier on eBay always call them first, they'll be happy to sort a better price over the phone because of no eBay charges.

Interestingly (without taking the thread off topic) it's not always the case as an increasing number seem to like the automation Ebay gives them....but I do appreciate you can sometimes get a bit knocked off...

As far as the OP's post goes it's good that alternatives are discussed or the thread would end up dead very quickly.

Strangely the cheapest place to buy might well not be the cheapest for the OP when postage is taken into account.

I find the bohler union 6013 rutile-cellulose to be an excellent rod which are very forgiving on angle and rarely worm-hole. But I do run a power supply with lots of arc force.

im also on the Bohler 6013 nice Rod United Welding sell 4 packs for the price of 3 very reasonable cant remember the cost off the top of my head

I prefer zodian universal, they're probably my current favourite 6013. Much prefer 7016 though.

Depends what your doing with the rods doesn't it? 7016 or 7018 aren't much good for short runs with stop starts and not ideal for 3mm wall box section.

7016 and 7018 are really a structural rod Johnseat. Grand for heavy section 10mm thick and over such as heavy pipe work and plate work and digger buckets, think quarry's and cement plants. 6013s while they can be used on pipework and platework are generally used for fabrications on lighter wall material from 8mm down to 2mm .They are a easy rod to use cause u can restrike them. They can give very appealing results.

7016 is totally idiot proof, I can change rod angle when I'm working in a tight spot with poor visibility and pretty much guarantee I won't have a slag inclusion or wormhole. I find the puddle/slag differation is super clear, I can see the toes wetting in well. Doing the kind of work I do with 6013 is just 'harder'... I don't necessarily always take the easy option in life, but I'll take my 7016 when given a chance. I also really like 6011.

Bohler pheonix bleau would be my choice. I really dislike overcord e.

Oerlikon citofix are a far better rod than fincord m. Fincords aren't a good rod for gap bridging and they have a tendency to trap slag very easily. They are the most over rated over expensive rod u could have.

Not much!
A fair stack of 4 and 5mm rods, lovely Pheonix, but pretty much out of 2.5 and 3.2's. Those few boxes of each I'd best hang onto as I'll want them some day and they're great rods, still my favorite 6013.

Not that many people after 4 & 5mm.

I can add another rod into the choice - INE 46 blue, well regarded by other forum members and well priced.

I used to use Fincords until the local shops stopped stocking them due to the price. A local welding supplier suggested I try the INE blues & I haven't bought anything else since. Maybe not quite as easy to use as the fincord but they give a lovely smooth strong weld.

I'd have to check but I think they're just 'phoenix' in red boxes and a cream coloured rod.
I think the 'blaus' rods are red fluxed and slightly different.
Will have to check but I think all the 4&5mm are the cream fluxed ones, nicer rod in my opinion.

Just checked my 4mm and they're Pheonix, not Pheonix blau.
