Depending on system, type of halon, method of delivery and area.

We were told that the Halon was released so rapidly that there was a distinct likelihood of you being knocked off your feet and also hit but flying floor tiles. Breathing was the least of the issues.

I've found a kitchen spray bottle set on mist more effective than the sponge when you forget to move the sound proofing.

I have a garden weed spray bottle the kind that holds a couple of liter and you pump up then use the wandy thing its been worth its weight in gold , the wand with the spray can get into some tight places especially if you see smoke ,,, they are only about twenty quid and stand being kicked about for ages , and they are refillable .

Never understood ironing clothes, used to know someone who ironed her bed sheets etc.

Lifes too short for ironing FFS.

Last time I used an iron was to steam planks for my brothers model boat - worked very well

great stuff for cleaning and it would once thin the original hammerite paint and kill you in the process spraying it in a confined room with a heater in it i nearly flaked out using it

In my REME workshop we had a big heavy lidded cleaning tank full of it with three rows of freezer elements a few inches below the rim to keep the fumes cold and heavy inside the tank . Being the workshop a sergeant I was made keeper of the keys to the room , everyone was signed in & signed out after an hour less.
A pint of full fat fresh milk was supposed to be drunk by anyone who spent more than 15 min in the room , which caused a lot of problems sometimes when the guy involved was sent to the cookhouse with a hand written order .

I suspect the Nicholson 36 being of the 70s era, that the fire supression was ineffect an extinguisher with a fusible bulb, sprinkler type head. They were all the rage for a while, when folk were trying to tick boxes for sail training etc.

Challenger tanks used to use halon 1211 for explosion supression, not fire fighting. Not sure if the new halon replacements are used in such away. 1301 was very common in shipping and gas turbine enclosures, computer rooms etc. In my short time working in the fire protection industry I was in a computer suite when the gas (1301) was dropped. Its very noisey, you see it at the discharge nozzles , a few ceiling tiles lifted, but no floor tiles.

The last FPSO I was on had a few different types of water mist systems. We had a fire in a gas turbine enclosure, (the last place you want wet stuff). Fire detection heat detectors and IR both said fire,the machine didnt stop and the extinguishant didnt fire.
Purely by coincidence, I was close by with a radio, went to see one of the guys looking lost next to it, smoke coming out of various places around the enclosure. Using if in doubt bail out logic, I pressed the big red button, machine stopped, lots of sirens but still no water mist. Anyway once the machine stopped, the high pressure diesel fuel supply stopped, fire was no more.
After much investigation and testing, some one got into serious bother as an override from testing had been left in and signed for as removed. A decision was made to actually fire the water mist, with a gopro inside. There was nothing mist about it. A spray not very different from that of an afff extinguisher every 3 minutes for 1 minute if I remember correctly. The other systems were similar some more spray than other depending on supplier. What a mess we made.

A lesson for anyone as stupid as me, think about safety first. I was MIG welding inside my car and had forgotten I also had a bottle of Acetone inside that I had used to clean the metal. Up until that point I always checked to make sure I had not left it in the car before welding but this time I didn't. A spark ignited the bottle even though it had the cap on and went up in flames, a few seconds of panicking (felt longer) then found the fire extinguisher and all was OK, no harm done but major lesson learned.

When I was a nipper I managed to set fire to my mini, I had stripped out all the carpet and cleaned everything prior to welding. The seats were tipped up but a spark got into the underside of one of them and there was a bonfire on the go before I realised, there was a hose already laid out but the mains pressure was so low I beat the water to the end of it. Game over, had to get the nur nurs in to put it out

Ryan Air may be cheap but I didn't think they were that cheap
