I'd rather have a GYS 207 personally which is in the similar price bracket to a 200 amp digital rtech acdc.

hate to admit it, but he is right, I know realise, that with w/c, you can have a smaller torch, more consistent cooling at the torch head, and probably more control and thus consistency at the sharp end.
I could have got the w/c cooled package, I can manage without it for what I do, but if I had went for it, I would have saved money on buying additional torches.

Most tig welders have lower mma capability because of the fuse rating.The rtech also comes with a pedalId probably go with the 170amp altho the 125amp limit on the mma is a concern i wonder why its so low.
My tiger210 is limited to 170 on mma. 125 will run a 3.2 so it's usable.

go for an eye test more like. Anyway, I bet you put 208, then went back and edited to 202 when you saw I had read the post
.Yep, and you will most likely find most jobs can be done with 2.5 rods anyway
However, I would not do MMA with my TIG set because :
a, its bleedin heavy to be lugging about-not looked at R Tech specs to compare weights
b, I keep it well away from my grinding and MIG area so it does not get exposed to grinding dust etc.
It does weld great on MMA though, I had a play with it when I got it.
If I have to take the welder to the job, I lug my MIG and use Fluxcore, but the MIG is heavy as well, so if stick will do the job, I have a "handbag" inverter set which weighs nowt.

I thought your 207 was pretty compact.

I decided to go with the rtech 170 ext, only used it on dc so far and not tried the pedal yet but it seems like a really nice machine. the torch is a little bulky but it has a flex head and the cable is soft and flexible and also has a swivel fixing where is joins the torch.

Well done on your new purchase.
Don't leave it too long before you at least try all of its features.
If it takes you 6 months before you have a go on AC and find its faulty on AC that's 6 months you've lost on the warranty. Get it fully tested out then enjoy.
