I think this would classify as my first exhibited metalwork... by this time I had worked enough crap jobs to want to find something that I enjoyed, I got into making jewellery as a hobby and loved all things shiney and decided I wanted to be a jeweller, so I took a foundation course to get into that. Little did I know that in my first year of my degree we'd get introduced to blacksmithing and I would be lured to the dark ferrous side...
Made in my foundation year, from wire and cans of lager, cut up and shaped and heated on the gas cooker!!!

Me neither.
I have looked into this one and it seems a common failing among people who work in 3D, it seems we can think the structure in our heads and just know what we are making.
I have a friend who makes fabulous pottery, she cant draw her £300 teapots, but can make them a treat.
Something to do with how the brain works, possibly left and right sided thinking.
It is embarrassing to tell my customers that I cant draw for a toffee.
I have lost a few big jobs because I cant draw.
But some people just think it is funny and go ahead with the job having seen the end results. Very brave in my book.
The Grand Piano I just made was a great example of this. We discussed it over the phone, I guessed a price, she sent me a deposit and I started work. No drawings, no plans. Modestly he says brilliant result.
Not being good at drawing does not mean you cant do art.

Interesting re drawing. I can draw, and like drawing in a sylized manner, but not great at realism. Luckily with what I do I can get away with it!

Lately I can do full sized sketches in chalk on the workbench, but pencil and paper? forget that.
I going to learn how to draw. Typically the idiot saw a perfect book on learning to draw and did not by it.
Looked on line, there are loads of books on the subject, they all look the same, this one struck a chord with me.

I worked this marble machine out in my head and drew the parts in CAD but it would be impossible for me to draw anything like it on paper. I can also easily sculpt things in Fimo that I can't draw.

Stuff wot I made
Hi folks, first post so don't be too harsh with me. ( as if you would. All very nice people on this 'ere forum
). Anyhoo, I've made several model harleys that I'll have to find the pics of and post them. In the meantime here's a couple of animals that I've done. The jaguar was my first attempt at a life form so to speak. I cant draw worth a sh*t and its a lot easier, for me anyway, to work out mechanical shapes. I was pleased with how it turned out and was then asked to make the horse and plough. They both started as scaled up chalk outlines on the floor. Outline made up and propped up vertically at the correct height.Rod hand bent around mdf circles and basically made it up as I went along.
I'll try to find other pics.
Any comments, good or even better welcome.

I see stuff nowhere as good as these at exhibitions.
Love the movement in the panther.
Marble machines? great stuff, ot must drive you made getting them to work.
Strube? the pitcher is my favourite.
And none of us can draw.

Thanks for the comments folks. Strada, its made with 6, 8 and 10mm round bar. The harness is 3mm thick flat bar. Plough blade was the side of a filing cabinet. Reins are galvy wire rope. Bottom of feet welded to 10mm plates then bolted through to concrete pads to stop it wandering off. I've got some assembly pics somewhere which I'll post when I find the disc.
