hey bill .im far from an expert with engines especially ford ,massey ferguson to the bone you see ,but ive had it a few times on our older stuff and seen it before where if its sat around not doing n then ran for short periods. one of my tractors looks like its breathing heavy if its not been used for a while and thats condensation , get it warm n swap the fluids and see what happens ?? just my thoughts ?

Well it's my thoughts too, it certainly does happen. I suggest checking the thermostat too because if it's missing or jammed open it'll make it far worse.
A bottle of K seal is a few quid and means that if there is a small problem it'll probably fix it anyway.
So an oil change to start afresh, make sure it's running hot enough and some sealer which remains as a preventative measure if it's not needed right now and it's unlikely to rear an ugly head.

If it's a case of dip it's oil after a days work to find it suddenly emulsified then it's probably a problem, but little amounts often aren't.

Well flushed it again and wacked some rad weld in it ill do a proper job on it next week but seems there's more crud in the engine but the pipes started to get harder but this came on the rad cap any deals I've flushed it 3 times now

if these engines are left standing a long time dry the seals on the bottom of the liners tend to go hard and get displaced by rust in the grooves they are seated in, its a common fault coolant leaks into crankcase contaminating the oil , As someone suggested give it fresh water and a heavy dose of K seal .is there alot of pressure in the rad ,does it spit water out the cap with lots of white smoke out the exhaust these are the indications of head gasket failure run it with the cap off to get the air out the system you might have to fill it a few times as it will probably spew out water with the air till it settles then add the coolant a few spots of water wil probably evaporate once its run for a while [ worth dumping oil and filter and replacing if all is well ]

ps check air filter too was using one once when all of a sudden the thing started belching pure soot out the exhaust and the radiator was spewing water everywhere turned out the air filter was so choked the rubber hose to the engine almost totaly collapsed and the poor old thing was struggling for breath new filter and coolant topped up she was back to work

no white smoke does spit a bit of water out the rad but I think the rad cap is just old and i got air in the system surely it must have a certain pressure in the system altho my rad sprang a leek today

a lot of old tractors ran without any pressure in the radiator it only serves to raise the boiling point of the contents

I'm only running water just to test it out ill drain it again and solder the leak and then run it again and see what happens hope head gaskets not gone but I got pressure in the rad but ill bleed it out when I've done the rsd

these were done on esab 4mm 180 amps ish 15 fw the metal was poor quality and I did not have a grinder present

but can anyone help me here just got that weld called pigeon sh*t I did not think there was anything wrong with the above weld I cant seem to keep the spatter under control arc length seemed fine and rate of travel was as constant as I could keep it what else can cause excess spatter

David, they look perfectly decent to me. Excessive spatter can sometimes be caused by excess arc voltage. Try and turn the current selector up a bit and the arc voltage/fine current dial down a bit. It should give a stiffer, less wet puddle which should have less spatter.

he's the guy above our supervisors. I have a little story its thanks to him I have my job I guess but here it is.
his dad was an incredible pipefitter welder and was super expensive it was only later on in his career dad could afford him and this guy was what got me in to welding sadly he did not like me to much so he never passed on any experience and sadly passed away but he was the first welder I saw and was like that was what I wanna do sadly I meet him at 25 to late for an apprenticeship. Any who his son is now a posh supervisor I guess but I dont think He will be training me anytime soon

Well I think he has a problem. I'm aware that using a camera can change the way things look to a degree (the welds I post on here look far better when properly seen and I'm sure the reverse is possible) but I'd still say that they're decent welds which you should be proud of. Yes there's a good bit of spatter but it's by no means bad.
