Fitting an Auto drain vale to my compressor

I've Been concerned about forgetting to open the drain valve and a build up of condensate in the tank.
So I decided to fit an auto drain valve, I searched the internet and found one with a stainless steel in line
Filter, for £19.12 including delivery. It took two weeks to arrive from china, this gave me plenty of time to get all the pipework connections ready.
I'm very pleased with the outcome, it works perfectly, as you can adjust the frequency and length of time that it opens.
I was a bit concerned that as it's positioned near the floor it might get knocked and damaged, so using
1/2 box section I made up a small crash barrier for it.

What triggers it, then? Just a timer?

nice idea, I wasnt expecting that, I was expecting a valve that opens when the pressure drops to arround 5psi (like on some water filters) like this one

a few years ago I did have an air receiver that rusted through due to not being drained. as I got a new compressor last week, so Im now thinking of making a drain valve after reading this thread, but I'll go for mechanical rather than electrical operation

There are two timers one sets when it opens, from every 0.5 of a minute to every 45 minutes, the other timer sets how long it stays open for, from .05 of a second to 10 seconds, there is also a manual override button to drain right down if you want to.

What are the thoughts about this sort of set up / mounting of an auto drain ie - higher than the tank ?

Pressure should force the water out, but I'd still be inclined to keep it low.

Ime missing the point here guys with these auto drains..theres something nice about draining the tank manually and seeing water come out i cant explain,its a bit like winding my 100 year old clock up every 3 days to keep it alive and working right

I wouldn't loose too much sleep about forgetting to drain it - we drain our compressor about once a year and tip out about 10-15 litres of brown water.

I had a compressor with an automatic drain......I didn't drain it for 10 years of light use, then the receiver rusted through,and it automatically drained. It took me a while to find out what had happened, as it just keep loosing pressure overnight
