fitting new roof caps cement mix

ok a bit of help from the collective im fitting new caps on to my garage roof

i allways been told 2 to 1 mix

this right ?

and what sand mix im thinking yellow and holm sand half and half in a 2 to 1 mix or is that to strong ?

3 to 1 half and half ?

From what I can gather the issue with fairy is it's too bubbly, I wouldn't personally use as feb is cheap and I always have it to hand.

I think everyone has used it atleast once, makes ridiculously creamy mortar with absolutely sod all water.

yea i know on the fairy stuff i used a bit when young and the stuff still standing but not used it for 20 years always have a bit of feb about for cement stuff

When I did the lead tuck on my roof ridge and chimney, and touched up the render my builder mate said get the sand from Jewson it's the nicest stuff for the job. I dunno if it is just our area but it was a lot easier to use than the first sand I got.

so im looking for sharp sand then ?

I used a gritty mix of sharp and builders (soft) sand. Must have found the mix ratio online somewhere. Lasting well. Pointed gable ends too - much better lasting than the previous owner's work.

Though I won't dispute it contains salt we are be talking a table spoon to 20ltrs of water.

its a coarser sand more like river sand with pebbles in it

its the old style sand that fires pebbles out when your grinding the pointing

so its not beach washed sand which is finer

thanks every one got a bit done on there today side tiles cut cement board on battons cut for the plastic virge caps just need the ridge on

but waether dont look ideal tommorw a good lot of dark cload around and 10 percent chance of rain can i cover it ?cant see how id id get the tarp to hold over it if the worst happends

Surprised you're not fixing dry ridge, and why are you using under cloak on verge if your going plastic?

was going to go dry ridge but expensive compaired to a few bags of sand and cement my time dont cost any thing or at least to me if im off im not earning so

and call me old fashioned but the ridge is on my house after 60 years and apart from 2 ridge pieces that had to be recemented thats it in that amount of time i dought the dry ridge will last that long being plastic ?

and undercloak was it looks more equal being x wide a bit more than the 30mm for the dry vrige so put the board up to stop birds )i know it sounds daft but it right in my mind)

ok did think about dry roof system bought the stuff to do job but now found out ive got to fill 16cm from ridge to just under the tile this doable ?

its low pitch as thats what planing wanted hence high hiped tiles
