Flat Belt Pulley - plastic (maybe aluminium)

I need to use the phenomenal reach of this group!

I run a weekend for Clumber Spaniel owners every year (Clumberfest) and I have activities throughout the weekend. I have just come across (in the US) "drag racing" - it's not tying a dog to the back of a car at Santa-Pod, but a line that is pulled down a 100 yard course that the Clumber chases, fastet dog wins! Now I reckon I can build something similar, but I have been googling for a while and can't find any flat plastic pulleys, I guess around 4"- 6" diameter.

I am sure you have better access to suppliers than I do - any thoughts? The motored part will be simple - just a 12v DC motor and remote speed control with a belt drive to a pulley with, say a rubber band, on the flat surface for friction.

So, where would you suggest I look for pulleys?

Plasic wheels of that diameter exist for use on trolleys and carts etc, if the tyre is removed you then have a pulley of sorts.

Interesting that they sell RC soft pack lipo batteries for it. Dog will have a saw mouth if it bites one. Better off using a power tool/hard cased battery for it.

Make sure to tie the used poo bag onto the string, instead of the park tree Whats wrong with throwing a ball?

Anyway there is a supplier near me that has delrin offcuts 2- 8" at a reasonable price, I'll have a look, Im happy to turn a few pulleys from a piece. I imagine you'd want a wide concave or V rather than flat faced. Plastic will give a lower mass and better acceleration.

Get hold of an old record player and use the turntable. You get 3 speeds and as a bonus you can get it to play Flanagan & Allen's Run rabbit, run as the dogs chase the lure

You want a mig welding reel and a motor like a windscreen wiper and speed controller to suit, all the lads Roundhear pester my life in for used mig reels for making lure machines, whipped racing is very popular

Looks like you may be needing a reel to hold the length of cord? To me the pulley looks like a V pulley.

That's a good idea. Cost is an important factor, so the cheaper the better!

That's similar as it is a "one shot and possible but you'd have to rewind it after every dog. I'm not sure how practical it would be to have a loop as the course is 100 yards long!

I have a lathe, so turning a groove/slot is not an issue.
