You are going to spend more money on cutting disks and gas to do a gash Job of flattening it! It's a couple of quids worth of steel!
also, what sort of price does a 2Mx1M sheet of 3mm go for?
around 70.00 from ebay unless theres somewhere close to you that you can get it cheaper
£46 delivered from Brundles.
im using 2...i have 4 sections that are 700x670mm (when flat) which is 0.469sqM, so all together i have 1.87sqM and will most likely use the majority of it in these 2 projects2sq Metres of steel out of a propane bottle?
i cant see the point in spending 46 quid when i already have the same amount of steel sat in the garden doing nothing...all it is going to take is a bit of hard work to get it flat enough to use...
my mistake was trying to flatten it before cutting the bits out that i need...it is going to be far easier to flatten it if i am only dealing with 250x250 chunks at a time and then a bigger bit later on for a different project
neighbours arent in during the day and they have never complained about noise before now and im not the only one in this street that makes that much noise. The only way you will do it is to batter hell out of it with a sledge hammer. It will look like it's been in a train crash.
When you start on it, maybe your neighbours will club together and buy you a flat sheet.
We give bits of stuff like that away for nowt - not a local fabricator you can have a rummage round their skips?
Genuinely PML at that PaulWhen you start on it, maybe your neighbours will club together and buy you a flat sheet.
And most probably his fingers tooYou've got more chance of platting fog than flattening a gas bottle with the tools you've got. As has already been said as well it is next to impossible to use a jigsaw upside down, you're not accounting for the weight of the machine and you pressing down stopping it from bouncing around everywhere, I am speaking from experience, test it by holding it in a vice. Check my posts I never spend money unless I have to and I'm all in favour of upcycling or modifying tools if it can be done safely but you really ought to rethink this project you'll save energy, money and time .
Just to add to the complexity of this.
Why does the jigsaw/finger remover need to be fixed to a metal base? why not invert it and fix to a wooden base?
Not withstanding the dangers and impracticality of what your trying to make - believe me I've made some death invoking contraptions that seem like a good idea at the time :-)
cut the pieces to size and stick them on a disposable barbecue, cut a few small holes in one end of the tray and light up as normal. Once its up to temp use the wife / girlfriends hair drier to improvise a blast furnace. Direct the (cold) air into the holes from a distance otherwise you need to budget for replacing said hair drier.
I've got 6mm plate cherry red on one like this, although I did make a tray, air duct and use a small snail blower... but a disposable barbecue is fine for one off jobs..
