Best mag base I have is a Mercer.
I had an M&W flexi mag stand, it worked ok to start with but I finally gave gave
up and replaced the flexi bit with a solid post; I can't remember what was wrong
with it, it's simple enough the little lever runs eccentrically and pulls the cable tight.

Couldn't you buy a small angle lamps stand and conver it to hold the gauge at the stands head?.

I got a 50?mm travel alpa indicator and Noga mag base with the fixed shaft holder in it for under 40 quid not so long since from ebay, by eck the mag base is strong!
