was making this knife to give to an older knife maker I know in the us but the knife is not up to standard I'm afraid!

Not up to standard!
I think the workmanship that can be seen in that is fantastic.

I wish I had the time to do things like that, I dont seem to have time to have wind at the mo!

I wish I had the skills!

cheers, it took about a week in stops and starts, about 40 cups of tea! its my 4th knife,im improving very slowly!

i scribe a line either side of the center of the blade and file or sand to that edge, i actually make the knives in my kitchen,ill look for a few pics, my wife is a very patient girl!

The Laguiole style looks good. I fancied doing a Barlow but it might never happen. What steel are you using and how do you temper back springs, I don't like mine too strong as I have grip problems sometimes.

steel is tool steel 01 high carbon steel used for both the blade and the springs,I temper them in a regular oven and with a blow torch at the most stressed areas to a blue colour, you can make the springs stronger or weaker to your own taste,I must make another myself,its real nice to carry your own work
