I dunno I've got a 1" breaker bar somewhere that I could do a good job of beating him with.

Why did you pull out the cones? Are you planning to run springs?

It'll be on cones in the end but they wont compress enough without an engine in so I pulled them so I could see what it looked like at ride height.


I thought I'd get back onto sorting the rear seat latches out this afternoon and seen a I'm doing something different with the side windows as well I pulled the old frames out.

I couldn't find any spare latches on the shelfs so I 'borrowed' a pair from my Dads Metro.

I'll have to build a bulkhead for them to bolt to and will be incorporating it into the new window frames. Shouldn't be too hard.

I got the window frame/seat back brace under way. I made a section up in the folder and got it cut to size and cleco'd in. Just need to plan out where to bend the section in front of the seat now.

I also used the backing plates I started making earlier to make a pair of cups for the latches to sit into. These will become part of the window frame so you'll only see a small part of the latch.

More work on the window frame/seat brace. I got folding and made the vertical brace for the seat catch.

After a bit of stretching I welded 3 returns onto the base to weld to the arch.

Then I tacked the vertical buttress to the window frame and added another return on the inside.

A few Celco's got it held in place while I finish the other side. It was a relief to see the seat folded up so nicely.

Some decent plug welds there Tupers, What hole size do you drill ?

Thanks Chris I've had a fiar bit of practise with my plug welds.

I used an 8MM drill bit and spiral from the outside in with the torch and pause in the centre for a second or so almost like tracing an @ sign.

Cheers Tupers, I was spiraling from the centre out but often dont get such a nice fill to the outer edges
I reduced down to a 7mm bit to resolve it a bit. I will give it go this weekend spiraling in when I do my rear valance

The 2nd rear seat brace/buttress/thing is in now. I just need to do a couple minor adjustments to the seat frame and all will be hunky dory.

It should be nice have the rear seats that bit further back.

Nice work and you're right, more leg room in the back will make a huge difference.

I made a start on the rear seat pans this afternoon. Once finished these will be welded onto the frame and blended so it all looks like one piece.

This is what you'll see with the seat folded forward, I think the swages add something nice to it.

I couldn't work out how you'd have vertical sliding windows in an estate - I'll have to pop out to mine to see how much room there is (Not that I'd copy it, just to get an idea of what you're doing). I got mine running after 18 months in the garage but I still need to swap the 1098 engine for the 1275 Metro before it's officially back on the road.

Im want to try and use the standard mechanism for the time being but that should make it easy to change to power windows.

There is one small snag in that the wind wont go all the way down because of the width I want out of it but it should be cool all the same. I've yet to start on the engine for mine. I'm going to be using a 1098 over bored to 1214 with and eaton supercharger and maybe fuel injection.


I finished making the tapered closing plates for the O/S seat pan this afternoon.

Once I was happy with the position of everything I seam welded it all up. I haven't decided if I'm going to make it part of the seat frame yet. I need to talk of our upholstery guy and ask how he wants to attach the cushion cover.
