1K Acrylic-Converter


Enables 2K-AC paints to be converted into an 1K-Acrylic-Paint. No hardener necessary after the addition of 4CR 1K Acrylic-Converter.

its mainly used in aerosols but can be bought by the litre, turning 2k paints into a 1k air dry acrylic

Not the first result but Link to Valspar data sheet. I wonder how it effects the physical properties of the 2k paint.

ive no idea but the paint shops use it when putting the paint into areosols
and obviously its the same base product but it changes the way the paint cures

I saw that before by doing some googling but I did not really understand the product.

Does this mean that you can be use with a 2K primer and 2K clear coat too?

So the idea is simply to replace the 2K harderner with iso by 1K harderner non iso.
it sound magical I have to say.

yes you substitute the 2k activator with isocyanates for the 1k convertor which turns it into an air dry paint.

no isocyanates involved

have a feeling (dont quote me) it was first called Nova when 2k hit us. Never tried it never needed to but those who did were not impressed. May be a different product but it was apparently a non iso 2k.

Gross simplification (and probably wrong) but aren't all the good properties of 2K a result of chemical crosslinking rather than air drying? The price to pay for this is the toxicity of the activator/hardener

anything that is enviromentaly friendly is crap anything that is bad for health good most people wont remember red lead paint . that was the buisness nothing went rusty with it

EFA I doubt leaded paint is completely forgotten, the Chinese were painting kids toys with stuff a couple of years ago

Always thought you got normal 1k acrylic/basecoat when rattle tins were made up (except Halfords who seem to make up celly..). Yrs ago I last had some mixed up, but I'm sure they were normal 1k base.

The "MI coating" that stuff's meant for says it's for machinery.

Curious though. We need a volunteer / chain smoking rabbit... Could be good for general odds & ends, especially if it dries faster than enamel. Can't see this stuff being in general refinish use really, or it'd be more well known?
