Well I tried to get one with surface Porosity visible. Spayed the black bar with oil got an old damp 6013, raised the power as high as 160 amps. Arc length was massive and had to keep up and downing it just to maintain it, coiled long leads up. Just can't re create it but it sure looks nasty View attachment 98852

I don't think it can be done. These were esab mind but when your arc is getting on for 1/2"or more and flaring all over the shop? Give it a go yourself, it's awesome how far away you can get and still deposit a bead of sorts

I've had a crack. Welded with a soaked 8018, no joy, long arcing etc. I've pushed a 7018 all the way along a run no luck. 3 pass fillet weld with no slag removal, and finally ran a 2.5 6013 at 150A. I can achieve so serious worm holes, but this is due to long arcing and weaving. The only time I've really suffered with porosity is welding with 7016 on the wrong polarity. Good luck sir.

Try welding with a 7018 over heavily painted steel that should cause porosity ! ie lap joint with two painted parts
that should solve your problem !

Might be among that bit of slag. You know the daftest think most of the slag pinged off as it cooled

I should guess Abid you want to show students porosity on a welded joint, weld a fillet in a couple of long bars which can easily be sawn up 300mm/ 12 inches long make plenty of restarts every 25mm/1 inch or so cut them up at every restart then macro etch and I'll bet you'll get quite a few really good examples.
