If I meter across live and neutral I get the voltage. Does that mean it's ok or not. I'm unsure.

Are you leaving black lead from meter on a known good neutral IE at plug or end of lead into machine?
I had a loose connection on one machine it tested fine with the meter, but because meter takes no power, as soon as it needed to use/draw ANY power--- nothing.

I seen one it's still £1300 (€1700) no cooler no pedal and looks a little worse for wear on the outside. I'm not buying a complete unit till I know the cause of the fault. Even then I'll probably use it as an excuse to buy a tetrix or an old Triton if I can find one.

I did do that I also tested the neutral at both sides of the contactor coming out of the switch.

You have to check the live and neutral all along their path, is the main switch double pole and switch the neutral as well ?
IE 4 connections on the switch if it does it could be only actually switching the live.
You need to check both as they progress further into the machine

Ok so to give you all an update. I'm no further forward to finding the fault and seen as I know someone who works for fronius I'm going to send it with them to at least be looked at and hopefully an easy fix.
Thanks to a legend of a member on here I managed to pick up an absolute bargain today, exact same machine but this is like new inside and out and for the money he wanted I would of been mad to of let it go so now I have 2
Here is the new one. Guy has had it from new and it's never seen a workshop. What a find 
Obviously I had a little play changing the AC wave, freq, and different filler types and just like my old one it performed perfect. 
She is all packed up and ready to go for repair. This will be up for sale when I have it returned, it may be working perfectly as it was if it is not going to cost the earth or it may be sold spares/repairs . Either way if your at all interested let me know.

It was the smaller of the two boards bolted to the top of the wind tunnel at the top. I got it for a very reasonable price fitted by fronius. I'm shocked they still support this machine since it has been not produced for 13 years or more. I've sold the repaired model now which more than paid for my new one. Happy days.
