Front wheel bearing inner race removal?

I'm changing a front wheel bearing on a Fiat Bravo and it's all pretty straight forward.
However, has anyone any tips for getting the inner race off the hub?
I normally just put a run of stick around them and they fall off but these are very tight.



My method was to weld a short section of pipe with a closed off end to the race.



Then drop a drift through the driveshaft splines and press it off.



It worked well, but there must be a easier way that doesn't involve me looking for bits of scrap the right size every time I need to change one.

Grind it with a slitting disc then split it with a chisel

Slot it with a cutting disc then a hammer and chisel in the slot
Welding only works on the outer races

thats what a dremmel is useful for small and fast

A 115mm flap grinding disc will sort that,
A new disc for quicker results,
Keep grinding until the bearing race 'blues'
Very carefully keep grinding,
The bearing race will crack along the 'blueing'
The bearing race will fall off,

A friend of mine is a fitter, he works on high end cars and gets me to gas axe the bearings off everything he cant get a puller to, I have never marred a shaft.

Grinder and chisel.

You can use a big bearing splitter and a press - if you love the shaft in question.

If you hold to torch at a flat angle there's virtually no chance of marking the shaft. Grinders and chisels are much worse.

I've always got them red hot then start with a sharp chisel between the bearing and the hub just to start them moving. Once there's a gap down the back they come off pretty easily.
