they replaced the pylons round our way a few years ago.if the farmers wanted them all they did was burnt the bottom of the legs off and pulled them over with a winch

Don't get too carried away until until you have it. Ceramic doesn't lend itself to being persuaded to do things. Took me a while to figure a way to wrangle a light source into them and even longer to drill the holes. Plus, it will be bigger and heavier than you imagine!
Drill oversized holes if you do try to wind LEDs round them as above. Mine were too tight.
I had thought something that implied dangerously high voltage would've been cool.

You mean the ones that hang from pylons? Dad used to have a 2 meter long chain of them he found in a field, they can all unhook from each other to make different length chains (for different voltages). I don't know where it went but it's long gone now sadly

That's a shame. I think the ones you mean might be from the big steel pylons though? We only have boring wood poles.

All the dish insulators are single items that clip together,,if you look at the back side of them(big metal collar) there is a "W" clip which is pushed out sideways to release each dish,,I've changed bloody hundreds of them ! Be carefull if you get your hands on the glass ones as they are toughened glass and go off with a right bang if dropped/chipped. I dont think you would have any luck drilling them apart from where they are cemented together in the middle.
