I only use my portapak occasionally nowadays. It's still handy for heating and freeing seized stuff or the occasional weld when out of range of electricity.
I agree with you that a good gas welder/cuter is hard to find but I was taught by a man who put a root in a 6inch pipe with gas. You not getting old by the way because I was gas welding since I was 14.May be im getting old but I love to pick up the gas and weld with/cut with it .may be the way I was taught but a good gas welder/cutter is hard to find now a days
