I may be wrong, but I seem to remember you need 1 size bigger for gasless wire to run correctly, as the wire deforms slightly when it runs through the rollers, or is inconsistent in size. Clarke supply 1mm tips specially

Have ya got the right tip? -thats one thing, have ya got the right roller?
It might not be the wire, it might be your technique, you might have too long an arc, I think you need to get in tighter and that will reduce the spatter.
Maybe; you cannot see where you are going?

see, I am confused there as "normal" small dia fluxcore is 0.9, another gentleman posted about 0.8 fluxcore sometime back and I queried it, but it does indeed seem that it is available and weldequip sells it, and its SIF, and he does not sell rubbish.
