An 'argosaver' basically cuts out the initial surge in gas when you first press the torch trigger, smoothing it out & reducing gas consumption.

Hi folks,
I guess this is where Weldequip tells me off for bolting such a piece of antique rubbish to the nice shiny gear which he sent me a few weeks ago, but when Ratty mentioned that there was an Argomiser on fleabay, I made the mistake of bidding on it.
Since I do a fair bit of tack welding, I was hoping that this gizmo might save some gas, but the problem is that I cannot find any info on how it should be installed so have guessed that it goes in series with the normal regulator.
The fact that the company from which I've rented a bottle on an annual basis for over 10 years admitted recently that their 5 year rental option would have been cheaper has given me an extra incentive, mind you.
Of course it blooming would, if they'd offered it 10 years ago...
There's also the small problem of not having a key for the thing, but maybe Ratty could help out with a description.
Unless it's thumbs down from t'he man who knows', when it will go into the junk box.

Looks the same unit as Ratty's. The one's I'm familiar with are pre-set & have no pressure gauge fitted. They are used in line as you have it Ken, but I can't see why you would need to adjust it... you set the output pressure on your regulator & the argomiser simply smooths out the initial surge in pressure when you first start welding (a secondary regulator in effect).

Hi Ken, Looks to be the same as mine (which is also an argomiser 111) but in better condition! The key is the same type as used for those heavy duty 'U' shaped bicycle locks (sorry the name escapes me) so you might be able to get one of those and file it to fit, my key was very battered when I got it (carried about on a huge bunch of keys) and didn't fit so I had to do a bit of strategic filing, it looks pretty simple, I can post a pic tomorrow if you like. From what I could gather it was never used anyway so as w'eq says, you probably won't need to adjust it. Does beg the question 'Why have an adjuster then?'. If you can find anything out I'd be interested to know. Looking at where the inner notch on yours is it looks to be turned much lower than mine - or possibly much higher!

Ratty: Kryptonite Locks?

If it is a similar lock, they can be picked easily. Find a soft plastic tube that fits (A Bic pen works.) Jam it into the lock and wiggle it around. The soft plastic will deform to match the key. Now you have a key.

Caused a big stink when the howto videos hit the bicycle forums

ive never found a bike lock that couldnt be opened very quickly, the easiest ones have to be the steel cable coated in rubber, or the ones that have segmented metal tube with a steel wire inside, also plastic coated, can get through them in less than 10 seconds

hehe i knew someone was going to write that after I posted that, no Im not a bicycle thief but I have as a teenager lost the keys to several of my locks and also the members at my club being so old, infirm or just plain ****** they forget combinations, lose keys etc, (i see them drinking champagne at 9am) so I have had occasion to remove locks, I do get some funny responses from people ..

Not the hard, clear plastic pens, the ones with the white round tube.
