I can't see a reason why an insurance company would have a problem with it there's loads of aftermarket bumpers available for offroad style vehicles, provided its listed as a modification to the vehicle. Even then it's not a performance enhancing mod, it'll slow it down...due to the extra weight...

PS. The only insurance company that might have a problem with it, is the "Insurance company of the Numpty" that has ran into the back of neds motor and his car now is a total right off...

What i refer to as "analogue parking sensors"

A guy on a P38 forum, Ewen, made this bumper and you can see he made inserts that slide into the chassis,
that also reinforce the chassis, was thinking of doing similar, will make my bumpercar stronger

Looks like he didn't bolt it on very well!

I found that with the range rover, i was attracting the attention of scumbags on the motorway. Never happened to me with any other car, but it happened twice in the range that people tried to intimidate me / straight up rob me, while I was driving along.

So im made the front bumper. And then it happened again, but this time I had the bumper in place,

and the intimidation factor was absent, the dynamic was totally changed.

Thats why i am building these bumpers. For the dirtbags.

As to the weight, the front bumper I made weighs 50 kilo

The original plastic / meatal front bumper weighed around 40 kilos.

Will be the same with the back, the stock bumpers are substantial, so im not adding that much weight, 20 - 30 kilos or onto the weight of the car in total.

An average winch weighs 50 kilos.

I have a 2" reciever mounted winch , and a reciever tube built into the front bumper. Ill do the same on the back.

Yes, in 2007 they changed the law and banned them on vehicles under 3,500kg.

@My Old Landy hello! yes the range seems like a scumbag magnet, i did not know that before buying it.

I still love the car. I had an Oz-spec heavy duty landcruiser PZJ77, and the axles on the P38, the general construction, are just as heavy. It's a superb car.

Actually - speaking of the Defender, I love the rear crossmember on those.

I have thought about replicating that look, to some small extent, on my P38 bumper. Very utilitarian looking, bolt on points everywhere.

The early discos also had a nice tailbone on them

Here's a front bumper I made for a mates Disco. The A bar slides out and a winch carrier slides in. Held in by big pins behind the quick release grille.
( I made the stainless rock sliders, light bar bush cable brackets, too)

One slight Problem MM ned lives in Erie, I don't think he's covered by British law.

But as ned points out not to many Roos in "Norf Lund'n" plenty of Mooses but no Roos.....

It's an EU law i believe.

there are plenty of rules and regulations here too, but, they arent all implemented. Dont know how I could better say that.
Unless it looks grevious, no-ones going to pull me on it. So Ill try make it look as neat as possible, like the front bumper. I put a years work into that thing and not 1 person noticed it, lol, because its supposed to be subtle, not attract attention.
