Yes, concrete's the next thing to try, but the existing rollers are beyond rescue, I'm looking out for a couple of push-mowers, probably go back to Qualcast as they seem quite plentiful on Ebay for a few quid.

Mind you, the extra weight will probably knacker the bearings!

have you though of making rollers from scaffolding bar you could make them adjustable and maybe get the size of glass you want first time plus they wouldnt bend

I think Scaffolding bar would be too small, I'm now thinking in terms of a cut-up gas bottle.

yea gas bottle would do it especially oxygen, co2 that sort of bottle thick and no seam in the middle have got an empty oxy bottle

I'm thinking CO2 - MkIV may consist of a couple of full size oxy bottles driven by a 3 hp motor !!

As those rollers seem to work well initially, is there any idea to weld the centre to strenghten it. And perhaps bend some.... say 2mm 3mm sheet metal around the drum and weld it in place?

The pressed steel ones were already welded in 3 or 4 places round the join, but the welds just broke.

It would be very difficult to bend the steel tightly round the drum and keep a nice round surface, it would be better to insert a cylinder inside the roller.
