Glue

I recovered a Series 3 dash about 20 years ago,peeled off the old cracked vinyl with a heat gun and stuck some new black vinyl to the yellow foam crash pad with spray on carpet/upholstery glue.
It's not peeled off yet.

Spay glue is usually good for low temperatures but not recomended for headlinings that get hot ie cars, boats etc.
But you can get a spray glue that is high temperature rated, i used some last year & it is bloody good, really fast grab & does not come off.
Top tip if cleaning glue off vinyl, DO NOT use acetone or similar thinners as it melts surface colour straight off the base layer instantly leaving hideous streaks. You will find that ordinary WD40 will remove glue from vinyl easily.

I have been skunnrred by it . Need more glue. I maybe didn't have it rough enough and also the face I used white spirit

Use brake cleaner / IPA for cleaning. For removal of contact adhesive, Universal 2K or cellulose thinners can be helpful, but not Acetone. It also responds quite well to a rubber scraper or even your fingers, for removal.

its mighty tricky to get a dash top looking good again , thats why good ones bring silly money , I think theres a fiberglass version available ,, but dont quote me .

I got mine looking fabulous! I repaired the surface of the original with fillers and graining paper, painted it body colour, then lacquered it with semi matt.

As was mentioned above, I'd lean towards Trimfix adhesive spray glue for something like that (IPA / Brake cleaner to prep the dash.
