Gluing Aluminium to aluminium

Can you guys recommend a glue with plenty of strength . I'm in the process of starting a JCB 3cx model build and aluminium is my chosen material. Also whilst I'm here I'm on the look out for a set of nibblers to cut the sheet aluminium .

That was my next question ,material will be 2-3 mm not sure yet .

I quite like this stuff for that sort of thing, I’m guessing not too much stress on the joints unless it’s a working model?

Bought a tube a while ago and used it for a few repair jobs, impressed so far. But whatever I’d do a few tests on whatever type of joints it needs to fix to make sure you’re happy, can’t think of much more annoying than having to take it apart if it doesn’t do the job.

Scotch weld 3535 would be an excellent choice if budget allows, cures to handle in about 10 minutes, sticks like the proverbial and being urethane rather than epoxy it has a little flex.

It was the glue of choice for sticking bits of cabin trim back together.

I'll use it for almost everything until my stocks are depleted.

Noting that your welder is an AC tig, 5356 is the only option

That would let you anodise it after and dye it jcb yellow and black. It is possible to do selective dying but have not tried it yet.

Nibblers, I bought a drill powered type off amazon, work ok if a little hard to control, need more practise at it. Very quick at eating metal. Tin snips where suitable are more controlled.

I wonder what Airbus use? Their aluminium jets are glued together I believe.

Epoxy with fibre in it (to stop cracks, old technique) - it's more about how it's used, how the surfaces are prepped, etc.

That's why I recommended the VM100, it's an MMA so it's rather more tolerant to surface prep.

One part heat cured epoxy.
Or failing that any epoxy will do. make sure surfaces are roughened and degreased.
