We did bleed it. It ran for 24h or so after so assume air isnt the problem. I think as long as they start and arent airlocked they can cope with tiny bits of air?

Yep, but that was what I was trying to get at with an earlier post - you can get oddities where it will run fine on tiny bits of air, but, when it's off for a while, the air all settles to a high point and then causes lockout on restart.

I mean it's probably not that at all, but it's another thing on the "possible" list.

I was first taught to "test" a capacitor by an old hand electrician. Basically you disconnect it then short it out with a screwdriver. If it goes "crack" it's possibly ok.

Then found out it's not recommended as they can explode especially the bigger ones.

Thus I still do it just for kicks & giggles.

I suppose as a percentage it's quite big .

Just to update - no lockouts (yet) since changing the capacitor for the one from the spare burner. Might get another to keep on the shelf.

Quick question, that I should have asked before changing capacitors... are you supposed to discharge these things before touching the terminals and if so, how do you do it without any specialist equipment (i.e. what using what you would normally have lying about in the diy kit)

depending on what size it is a screw driver over the contacts will discharge it dont do this on big ones or leave it unconected for half an hour on the side and the charge normaly disapates on its own (half hour time limit was given to me by a motor guy dont know if this is the right time scale but what ive used but i dont touch them that often )

So just pull the connectors off with some insulated pliers and leave for a bit?
