We (work) use the same type as runnach...custom made.

Keeps most of the noise down and the hole is supposed to make it easier to hear people talking to you.

Do you find them easy on the ears Wyn, I do?

I forgot to mention, they come with their own wee storage box when not in use after a quick wash in hot water, the defenders, not me lugs

We used to use the foam roll ups and it wadded the wax up in my right ear and sent me deaf and gave me dizzy spells for a few days till I had my ears syringed. I tried ear muffs but they made me sweat and caused a rash behind my ears. :C

I have use emtec for years think thats what terry and wyn are talking about the guy takes an impression from the inside of your ear and makes a mould for the plugs which luckily they keep as i have had to replace one as jock me dog ate one!

I also have moulded plugs but i cant get on with them, There seems to be a bubble on the part that goes in my ears and i have a major job getting them in and out.

Theres a guy that appears at shoots and gamefairs and makes them up same day.

Those sound like the ones Sam, they put a syringe full of goo in your ear and bung in a bit of string...pull em out when it's gone off, then make the proper ones off the impressions.

As you say Runnach, once you put them in you forget they're there.

I use the yellow EAR Pods on the blue band, under the chin.
Store round the neck, can pop them in in a sec with the grubbiest of mits.
Not the highest SNR, but deals with rumbling lathe and droning mill ok.

LOL no i seem to have larger cavitys in the ear than the entrance to the ear so i need to lube em up with spit to get em in.

Vaseline the inside of your ears, stick some cotton wool in and then get the mastic gun out. DIY moulded ear plugs

I use some cheap headphone looking ear muffs. It works for me, I just grind and cut metals.

I've tried those little independent plugs that come out of dispensers, foam-like material, which just made me freak out and didn't muffled anything.

They sit in front of my computer now, I put them in my nose and try to shoot random targets by blowing them out when I'm bored.

I use Optime III 's in the engine room, fantastic ear defenders. Just need to keep 'em clean or they start to pong but then I do spend 8+hours a day wearing them. You can buy hygene kits as well.

I have tailor made plugs that have a very small hole that allows some audio in, I find them mutts nutz! Company set us/me to house of hearing for hearing test and, they then make wax mould impression of yer lugs, I realise this may seem a costly process, however, although I,m not sure, can cost for H&S ear not be offset against tax?

Another point, my hearing loss is now recorded at a certain level, if it did get worse, Co has met it,s responsibilty of providing me with suitable & IMO comfortable ear protectors.

The small hole is really for letting ear moisture out or otherwise you get an infection. Also it helps to relieve air pressure so it's more comfortable for the wearer.
