ok ,has any one thought that instead of offering there opinion of how who n why ,why dont you try asking the man himself n maybe he will enlighten all you experts by telling you why its built like it is .i know the guy n i know the reasons as to why its like he built it like he did.. but then again there wouldnt be a need for an opinion then would there?????
Why get it approved and by who? Why is it unsafe? No different to lots of basic gas bottle woodburners out there except its made of thicker steel and can get more fuel in.
You put fuel in light a match and it gets hot. Shut the doors and it stops a stray spark lighting up the workshop. Its got a big flat surface for the kettle. Job done I say!

What it really needs is a load of dome headed bolt tops welded onto it to give it a riveted together boiler look

Both my front room stoves have a flue damper fitted by me,it all depends on the height of your chimney,mine are both quite high so there's lots of draught, hence the flue damper,the rayburn on the other hand has a flue damper built in, along with a flue door which I leave open if I'm overnight banking up or it'll blaze away before morning.

Well right or wrong but for what it's worth I also heard HEATAS or the likes disapproved flue dampers a few years ago for the potential CO problems it can cause if used incorrectly-although used in the right way they increase heat output and save fuel.

Well a case in point is that you can make/install/buy/get fitted anything you like, but if it causes a fire or poisoning and an insurance company gets called in they will use anything as ammo not to pay out. ALL heating appliances SHOULD be tested to BS and EN standards and CE marked-and it's probably these ones that won't have them fitted, but my local trade and DIY store sells dampers as an individual unit for about 20 quid.. I can see how in the wrong hands they could be dangerous-make a fire with a load of wet logs and cold chimney, damper closed, couple of beers and asleep on the sofa- might be the last taste of the amber nectar you get.

the only reason this has one is to block the flue when not in use to keep wind n wildlife out.he lives on top of a mountain so it can be pretty windy up there. seems to burn perfect without having to use it.. its going in a drafty garage not his front room . i can see where miss use could end in disaster though.
It would have to create more smoke or noxious fumes than his old tractors first though!
