That's my DIY portable welder. Been on a back burner until I have time and $$$ to have new boards made.
As is it works but cuts out for 1 second periods. Something loose inside. That 12HP B&S engine shakes a bit as it revs up. Have done several 2.4mm rods in a row with no problems. Should be good for almost 150A continuous.
One of these days, I'll finish the firmware to do MIG and TIG.

is it my imagination or has your web site increased dramatically in size the portable welder page has had a lot of hits i like the page where you tested different gases should be very useful to some of the mig guys
I was having a bit of trouble with your drop-down menus when I tried to move the mouse down them they popped back up I'm heading over their now for so light reading

I have had a read just to cap it off.
The rod holder (the stinger) is in the Poss (+)
the Earth is (return lead) is in the neg (-)
The 6013 is a basic rutile welding rod. and can be used in all positions.
Depending on what your welding and what type of machine your using the leads can be swapped around.
For example if i where to be welding a DC (gen set) i would have the Rod holder (stinger) in the Neg (-) as the temperature would not be as hot as if your running straight polarity
This is called reverse polarity.
ON the other hand if i where to be using an AC machine then i would be running straight. If I where to change the polarity on an AC I would have insufficient Arc strength and temperature to weld. But again i have been on welding jobs where i have had to do
this, This is because the metal was that thin and rusted I had to drop the temp. Or i did not want to much heat in the parent metal.

That makes no sense. AC has no polarity. Did you mean AC-powered?
If it is AC powered or a genset does not matter. DC or AC is the same regardless of the type of power source.
DCEP will have higher penetration then DCEN. AC will have somewhat in the middle.

You won't do any damage, so try a test piece and see which you prefere for the the particular job you have in mind. Personally I generally use 6013's on DC- W/A.
