Help - rain water leaking into garage/workshop

Thanks for the replies, if i'm brutally honest i want to avoid any major digging, the reason being that i have an hiatus hernia which means that all the bending in the stomach region affects it and then when i go to bed all my stomach acids end up coming and usually end up being sick and not able to eat properly for a few days

Not sure if it's the same thing - but I've been getting "Heartburn" and acid reflux ? for probably 25 years - until I was prescribed a drug to neutralise the acid (omeprazole) - made a big difference to what I can eat or drink...

Rater than spend £100 on some tanking slurry that may or may not work, why not offer one of the groundworkers £50 to dig it out, and batter the ground away? you could lay gravel and a land drain if you want to run any water away.

£50 to dig it out ? - be lucky to get any sort of building worker to even get out of bed for £50 round my neck of the woods...
Last time I had any building work done - cost me £70 a day - and that was "cheap" compared to some quotes...

Tin can don't dispair.. I have a bust up left shoulder three knackered discs L1, 2 , 3/4 have thorasic spine probs and cervical spine probs ..If I was a horse I'd have been put down 20 years ago .

Yet recently I have dug a 1 mtr wide 1mtr deep trench system 48 mtrs long in ground that is " made up ground " ... made up of the best crap the builders could find 30 years ago and compacted it with a dumper truck in depths from 300 mm down to 2 mtrs. There are lumps of concrete 2 foot by 2 foot down to bricks in lumps of 15 or so not to mention lots of chain link fence wire wriggly tinsheet and four 10 mtrs long off cuts of steel wired armoured 6 mm cable etc etc .

I have used a ladies border spade carefully fitted and rivetted to a shaped pitchfork shaft . It was given to me in 1982 and has seen me shift hundreds of tonnes of stuff during three home modifications and building a small mammal farm . I have a mini pickaxe that has been made from a mattock and plasma cut to make the head 2 inches wide with the pick point end 2 inches at its thickest , it is fitted on a black plastic helve .
I doubt that I have ever fully filled the spade blade , the long shaft has allowed me to scratch, scrape and shovel small amounts , I have never used the spade as a lever ..thats what the mini pick is for , I do have a cheapie 750 watt SDS mini breaker/rotary drill and have drilled big lumps of concretee
to halp breaking them up into hand sized lumps ( it is number three drill in 20 months ). I also have a 1 1/4 inch high carbon steel bar 1.8 m long with a hot forged & tempered by me point on it as a wrecking /prise barto move bigger lumps once I've scraped away as much muck as possible .

It took me just over five months to get the trench finally dug out and barrowed away in 1/3 barrow loads to the end of the garden . I set myself targets of 3 x 1/3 barow loads each day ..some days i made it some I did not.

I did eventually get dig fit ( well as good as is possible ) and some days managed a magic ten loads .. I always stopped before I was totally cream crackered. I have laid steel wire armoured 6 mm to the garage , water . 5 phonelines , two Cat 5 data cables all in separate ducts as well as a 100 mm foul water drain set to the correct gradient back to the main sewer ( building control approved and inspected ) the trench has been back filled with 10 mm clean crushed stone and a path is due to be cast over it this year.

That crushed stone all 18 tonnes of it , barrowed in to place by me also holds a 100 mm perforated land drain pipe at the lowest point of the trench , it drains off all excess water from the front garden , down the side of the bungalow , the rear garden and out to the lowest point in the back garden and into a large 2 mtr x 2 mtr soak away made from most of the rubble extracted when digging the trenches.
I'll bung up some photobucket piccies over the next few days if the snow lets me .

You will be surprised as to what you do if you treat the whole project as eating an elephant .. do it one bite at a time and do it over several months.

PS. I'm 59 years young , so I suspect you do have a future digging for your victory .

These people appear to have taken over 'Thoro' products who were a go to supplier in the 90's may be worth contacting them. However the French drain solution is potentially the best solution can you get a mini digger in?
