Wow Sparkey... why is it that any thread you contribute to rapidly spirals off topic?!!
Anyway, Flashdance... are you talking MIG/Stick/TIG or what?
I think the main risk to unborn baby would be absorbing chemicals from fluxes (burnt or unburnt). UV shouldnt be a problem if youre wearing normal protective gear... wont penetrate far into skin etc anyway.
So i would personally stay away from Stick/Gassless MIG while pregnant. (my gasless MIG wire has the warning "contains chemicals known to the state of california to cause birth defects etc")
I reckon if you stick to gas MIG or TIG, the worst you could be getting is metal fumes... Buy yourself a mask (or use disposables) thats rated for weld fume/thermally produced metal fumes and your set!
Thanks dopplershift. So far i have stayed away from stick welding. We have a mig in our U/G workshop and We dont really have the need to use a tig. I also rang my mid wife and she said i'll be fine as long as i wear my leather jacket and a mask... Now i'll just work till i start showing..
