After hours and hours of searching google I am resulted to posting for help on here. This forum being the most active and knowledgeable it seems on these types of equipments.
I have a Bradbury 2103 screw 2 post vehicle lift, with a 3kw 1400rpm 3 phase motor. 2500 kg rated capacity.
Trying to get this to work in a single phase garage. Personal hobby.
I have been gifted a converter that came with a friends 3kw 3 phase vehicle lift. He didn’t use it, he converted to 3.7kw single phase motor instead.
I’m confident this converter will work.
Now I have got it working, however, I don’t think the converter itself is wired correctly.
Now this is what I’m requiring help with, I’m not too familiar with commercial electrics however I have done lots of reading about what’s inside this magic box.
The motor is running in star, as the converter coverts to 400v+.
I have wired with armoured cable, rotary isolator etc direct too the board etc. Currently on a B20 breaker, had planned to change for C20.
Now my issues are;
The lift works and then randomly it just stops working, the motor grinds to hault and is almost like it’s drained all the power. I then have to take the weight off the posts and let the lift down bit by bit.
If I go to the top, I have to just go, can’t stop as if stopped halfway with a load can only come back down and then go back up to top again.
However, I’ve not been convinced with the supply to the motor from that converter so I’ve been doing some digging.
My main issue I think, is the wiring in that box.
Between the phases.
L1-L2 0v
L2-L3 430v
L1-L3 430v
L1 to Earth 240v
L2 to Earth 240v
L3 to Earth 189v
It’s quite hard to take pictures but there’s a lot going on, links between neutral and L1 (which I don’t think is right) and all sorts.
I didn’t know about anything in that box, so I did research. I knew they were capacitors but wasn’t 100%.
So it has 3 start capacitors that are 100uf, I have removed all 3 and tested them, they are within range all good.
Then either side it’s oil filed run capacitors. Haven’t tested these.
In the bottom is a transformer? How it gets its 400v I assume?
Then behind terminals I think is a switch pack of some kind?
I really need some help with this, I get there are other solutions but I’m more keen to know why no voltage between L2 and L3 and is that why this ramp is struggling, my assumption is that it’s virtually running 2 phase?
See attached images, tried to be as detailed as possible. I will owe anyone beers if they can help me figure this out.
The converter looks older than me!
