there is a formaular to work out relationship to number of turns voltage and current but can't rember which way it all goes. Welding transformers are a slightly strange one as well especially MIG

the top switch selector what is it used for? and whats is he difference between 50v and 80 v? thanks

I believe the answer to both these questions is printed on the panel as in your second photo.

The top switch is intermediate current like perhaps five 2A steps between the main steps such as between 20A and 30A.

The difference between 50v and 8Ov in terms of suggested use is also printed on the panel, i.e. to use 50v for thicker metals and 80v for thinner metals and so-called special electrodes.

One of the things that does go wrong with Oxfords is the contactors burn out on the regularly-used fine settings. I think we have two gone. You can open it up and swap them round so that the most-used settings still work.
They have to see some real hard work to burn them out though!

We used to take them out and braze them up, its about the only thing in them that wears out, Ive boiled the oil a few times, when we used them to build narrow boats, it smells like you've got a tom cat in the shop
