ohh welcome to my world of the little milling machine.
bearing in mind the lightweight construction of them, for general milling I wouldnt be using a millling cutter more than 12mm diameter and my preference for stock removal is normally 8mm carbide end mill. For facing work I use a carbide tipped flycutter with a 50mm dia cut to a depth of 0.25mm or 25mm dia cut to a depth of 0.4mm. I find that taking heavier cuts and vibration can be an issue, and the gears in the head are plastic, so there is a greater chance of striping the teeth with shock loading from using heavy cuts with larger cutters.
also how much overhang is there with the collet chuck, I don't think that will help with accuracy due to flexing, as Im assuming its a 1 morse taper spindle unless you're lucky and have the later version with a 2MT spindle.

Be rude to ask in open forum how much you paid, but if you're prepared to disclose by PM it'd give me an idea how much my budget needs to be.
The one at auction in Aberdeen I had my my eye on went for twice what I'd set in my mind by the time you took VAT, buyer's premium etc into account - perhaps I'm being unrealistic......
mine cost over £1000 when I got it........that was £400 for the milling attachment (I think they were £500 retail), and was basically new from a CZ Scientific rep, who I knew for years and mentioned it in passing and said he had one......and CZ Scientific were the importers of them many years ago that was in about 1992. The Milling base was new and cost £750 and I spent ages tying to get one, and I got that in 1995.
I didnt have space for a separate milling machine when I started with my model engineering, as I was working in a 5ft x 5ft shed, so space was at a premium. I did originally have the milling head attached to the lathe, but the lathe bed flexes quite badly due to the weight of the milling attachment, and the lathe bed is basically 1/2" thick cast aluminium channel.
you'll find that raising the head by hand is tedious work for more than a couple of mm. I use a 10.8v 2 speed cordless drill driver with a slow speed of 300rpm and that works fine with a 13mm nut driver.
