Are you on your own ? Tie a rope on them where the ladder reaches to then get someone to pull them sideways while you cut through the bottom. If you are cutting them higher up be sure to tie your ladder on as they will probably spring back under tension when the weight of the top is released. Get a cheap 21" bow saw with a green wood blade if you are doing them by hand, they cut like a knife through butter.

I've been wondering the same. A pull rope, a wedge cut cut and then a final parting cut will get the pieces going exactly where wanted. I've cut/pruned all of our trees with nothing more than a normal handsaw, some common sense and a rope and pull when needed, and never had a single incident or misplaced drop.

^^ thats fine, as long as you're on suitable ground. I've seen it done where the substrate is peat - it burned for days.......

I have tried burning stumps out with no success using petrol, kerosene, diesel, the lot. How do you get the fire started enough to make it burn like this? I've currently got one huge stump I need rid of. My latest plan is to pour ammonium sulphamate into a few big drilled holes but then that will take a few years and I'm kinda impatient. I'm not digging it out - it's too big.
If I could get a fire started like the video I would be a happy camper.
