How old do you have to be to "stick weld"

i personaly hate Cerated seem to grow fuzzy bits
some gold ones and blue multis ok
but i think chinese cerium must be iffy

We've gone back to a Austrian producer now - Plansee same as who Murex used to use. BOC may have got theirs from the UK. Not run them a great deal but I rate Thoriated highly on DC anyway.

When Murex first started in 1909 they dealt in refractory metal from extracting the metal from the ore and refining it into powder. Down in Rainham. Interesting bit of history I suppose.

I usually run Huntingdon Fusion techniques MultiStrikes but I don't think the quality recently has been as good. They've been furring up a lot quicker.

In response to the original question of how old do you have to be to stick weld?...
Old enough that youve grown to the size that youre capable of holding a set of tongs with a welding rod in, and that a headshield will fit your head??
When he was 7 almost 8 he was asking me all the time if i would, so I tough my stepson to weld with some 4mm iron powders and a few bits of 10mm plate one Saturday morning at work when he came down to meet me with his mum half hour or so before i was due to finish work (after ok'ing it with my boss of course). He had one of my Kromers and my spare lid on, along with a pair of gauntlets, leather apron and the likes, and weve since come up with all sorts of ideas for bits we can make up at home once i get some more tools/gear sorted out.

On the other end of the scale ive made a few bits and pieces up for my inlaws last year for their garden, including a security post to stand locked upright in front of their garage door but removable.....and my father inlaw fancied having a go so showed him through it, and he was almost 78 at the time lol.

What does it hurt somebody getting you to show them the way. Doesnt bother me one bit, as long as have got the bits so that no one gets hurt doesnt do any harm.
